So, I work at Michael's Arts & Crafts, and one of the big things we do is collect squares for Warm Up America. For the link-wary, Warm Up America is a knitting charity where people take spare yarn (just acrylic worsted weight) and knit or crochet it into 7"x9" block. The blocks are then stitched together into blankets which are donated to homeless shelters across the country.
It's a really terrific charity and it's one of the few fantastic things about working where I work and I tend to promote the heck out of it.
My question is, though there are charity knitting communities on LJ, such as charity_knitter and craft_4_cause, would anybody be interested in joining on specifically for Warm Up America?
Although I know that this community includes people from all across the world, I'm just trying to get a feel for if I would be wasting my time creating a community for this project or if I should just join one of the other communities instead.
I, personally, don't have enough time. :( But I think if you advertised it on as many knitting communities as you can (as well as the two charity comms you mentioned), you'd get a fair few members--those who are already participating, and those who may be drawn to it by seeing your community. Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
